Lights Inc Partners with Renton School District on Tunable LED Upgrades
As part of a district-wide commitment to modernize learning environments, Renton School District upgraded lighting across multiple campuses with tunable LED systems—an energy-efficient solution designed for both performance and student well-being. Lights Inc is proud to serve as the district’s lighting and electrical contractor, delivering a full turnkey upgrade that brings smart lighting technology, better comfort, and long-term sustainability to classrooms across the region.
A Smarter Approach to Classroom Lighting
Traditional fluorescent lighting has long been known for inconsistent color temperatures, glare, and flicker—issues that can cause discomfort, distraction, and fatigue for students and staff. Renton School District sought a solution that would improve visual comfort, reduce energy use, and align with the Washington Sustainable Schools Protocol (WSSP) for healthy, high-performing facilities.
Each upgraded classroom now features tunable white LED fixtures that can adjust color temperature from 3,000K to 5,000K. Teachers can select preset modes such as Calm, Focus, or Test to support different learning activities and student needs—including specialized environments for sensory-sensitive students.
Turnkey Electrical and Lighting Services
Lights Inc managed the complete electrical and lighting scope, from demolition to commissioning. The project included:
- Removal of existing fixtures and controls
- Installation of new LED systems, branch wiring, and power connections
- Control integration with manual wall switches, preset scenes, and sensors (daylight and occupancy)
- Panel and circuit upgrades as needed
- Compliance with NEC, local code, and district standards
Classrooms were configured with their own control zones, giving staff the flexibility to adjust lighting as needed. Controls utilize 0–10V, DALI, or proprietary systems and can integrate with the district’s building automation systems, such as Alerton or Niagara.
Training, Commissioning, and Long-Term Support
Once installation was complete, Lights Inc provided on-site training and commissioning to ensure proper system operation. Teachers and facility staff received hands-on instruction on using scene settings, override functions, and scheduling.
Our team also verified system performance—testing lighting levels, sensor response, and energy code compliance—to ensure every classroom operates efficiently from day one.
